Smart Research Wing Chun and Scientific Method

This post informs our readers and followers why is Smart Research Wing Chun different and better than the mainstream Wing Chun.

We have been telling people that our methodology makes our Wing Chun more scientific and workable than the mainstream Wing Chun; but how are we able to do that? We are able to claim so because we are probably the only group of martial artists to research Wing Chun instructions and martial arts with scientific method.

Usually, when a mainstream Wing Chun practitioner fails to perform, he may conclude his bad performance with these:

1) He needs more practice and time to hone his skills. (Although he may have been practicing the mainstream Wing Chun for years.)
2) Wing Chun needs to evolve, so he should mix Wing Chun with other martial arts.

Both of the above aren't empirical, logical and scientific, they are based on wild guesses and they simply use "brute-force-thinking" to conclude that their techniques don't work because of some unknown reasons and therefore they should try other ways without trying to find out what are causing their techniques to malfunction. And of course, the evidence of their performances already shows that they are wrong because on YouTube you can see those who try to do MMA + Wing Chun incapable of using Wing Chun techniques successfully in action (such as Tan, Bong, Lap Sau; footwork, inch punch, etc.). And they often have to rely on techniques of other martial arts to perform.

For Smart Research Wing Chun practitioners, we use the scientific method to investigate what exactly is wrong with the mainstream Wing Chun. Through this approach, we improve the accuracy of finding out what are the errors of Wing Chun caused by - this is what sets us apart from the rest of the mainstream Wing Chun schools. What is scientific method about? Watch this video for the explanation.

Because we research Wing Chun and martial arts scientifically, we tend to have more accurate knowledge of what's wrong with a particular martial art (mainstream Wing Chun in this case). Our conclusion is scientifically valid and reliable because of this approach. This is why we were able to fix some of the major scientific errors of the mainstream Wing Chun and we are able to use Wing Chun techniques successfully in sparring.

This is a video of beginner who managed to use purely Wing Chun techniques, guard and footwork to defend himself against an opponent who used Karate. Unlike some of the mainstream chunners, he didn't do this:
  • He didn't hop, guard, block and attack like a kickboxer; he used purely Wing Chun and he was able to block and strike
  • He used the techniques the way that he practiced his shadowboxing; unlike the mainstream chunners, they can't use what they practice in a realistic setting
  • The body mass was behind his blocks and strikes; the mainstream chunners often can't block or hit with adequate strength because the body mass isn't behind their techniques (which is unscientific and it is a distortion of techniques)
