Unfortunately it has been mostly diluted, I think.
Once upon a time Wing Chun students actually tested what they learnt in real fights. Some masters had students who could fight better than others. People looked to these masters as having superior technique and said, "Wow, Sifu X is legit! I'm gonna learn from him."
Over the years, Sifu X's teachings are passed down from one generation to the next. Like a game of telephone it's hard to tell how much of Sifu X's original teaching managed to transfer, and it's hard to go back to the source because Sifu X is long dead, and his surviving students have developed their own lineages and own interpretation of the teaching! Worse still, the students don't spar because... why bother? It's Sifu X's technique! His students were badass fighters man!
Wing Chun is in a dire state today because too many students do not bother to test their skills and base their confidence in their fighting ability more on faith than anything else. One might even say that in some schools, it is all art and no martial. Too much focus on forms, overly compliant chi sao and not nearly enough pressure-testing.
We need to go back to the roots and spar!

Teaching has been mostly hearsay for decades. Just look at Chu Shong Ting's insane "mind power" and "nim lik" that a bunch of people have gulped up and think they can produce force with their mind.
